From a little town in Poland to one of the best universities in Canada and United States
Magdalena Air is a Polish composer, arranger, vocalist, music producer and educator who cannot be put into one box. She is a scholarship recipient of Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA) majoring in Contemporary Writing and Production and with a minor in Writing for TV, New Media, and Screen Scoring.
In the Fall of 2023, Magdalena begun her Master's of Music studies in Jazz Performance at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where she masters her vocal skills under the supervision of professor Camille Thurman. In 2018, she completed a Master of Arts degree in Composition and Arranging and Jazz Voice at the Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland. She also finished a 2-year pedagogical study at the Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland, and gained experience as an educator in voice, piano, and music theory at the Silesian School of Jazz and Performance in Katowice. Apart from giving private lessons, she conducted several music workshops, eg. during the international festival Voicingers in Żory, Poland.
In August 2020, Magdalena released her debut album "Find Me" recorded in collaboration with Polish jazz musicians, Franciszek Raczkowski, Jakub Łępa, Beata Duda, Mateusz Szewczyk, and Mateusz Lorenowicz. The album consists original compositions and arrangements oscillating around different styles of jazz. In 2022, she released an EP "Gardens" with original electronic music, entirely self-produced.
Currently, Magdalena Air is working on her 2nd album "Stories" recorded and produced in collaboration with international musicians from Berklee College of Music. She also released several singles in collaboration with other musicians, including "UBER RIDE" mixed and mastered by Ely Goldston (USA/Israel), and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" cover recorded remotely during the pandemic with international friends STYLIAN.OS (Greece), Dinos Alvanos (Greece), Filippo Goller (Italy/Germany), and Eduardo Hoyos (Colombia).
From 2019 to 2021, Air was also a coordinator of the Voicingers Festival. During that time she gained professional experience as a videographer at Berklee Video Services in Boston, MA. For 2 years of her education at Berklee, she was a Peer Trainer and Lab Monitor at the Creative Technology Center at Berklee College of Music, teaching subjects related to music technology and software such as Logic Pro and Sibelius.
Apart from personal projects, she worked on several collaborative events as a composer, arranger, and music producer, including arranging for the Singers Showcases at Berklee College of Music (Tribute to Tina Turner, Tribute to Elton John, Tribute to Sting and The Police, Tribute to Stevie Wonder) and scoring for a short film "Stolen Dance" by Alice Do.
During the summer of 2022, Air was a composer intern for Audio Design Desk, a Los Angeles company that received several awards for the Best Software. During the internship, she recorded, composed, and produced musical cues, loops, and sound design elements for releases including "Underscore - Documentary" and "Reflections". (click for more info)
Magdalena Air is an active vocal performer specializing in jazz (especially scat singing and improvisation) and worship music since the age of 12. She performed at jazz festivals such as Voicingers Festival in Żory, Poland, the International Jazz Festival in Prudnik, Poland, and the Hazna Jazz Festival in Koszalin, Poland. She presented her original music at Berklee College of Music as well as for the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall in Katowice, Poland, the Cho-Jazz Festival in Chodzież, Poland, and the Vertigo Jazz Club in Wrocław, Poland, to name a few.
